Create 3D Plant Cell Model In A Shoebox

Gather the Supplies



Before you begin constructing your 3D plant cell model, make sure you have all the supplies necessary. You will need a shoebox, poster board, six wooden skewers, a pair of scissors, a glue stick, a marker, construction paper, cellophane wrap, and assorted craft materials. You can find these supplies at any craft store or in your local school supplies shop.

Construct the Nucleus



Once you have all your supplies, you can begin constructing the nucleus. Cut a piece of poster board that is slightly larger than the length of the shoebox. Glue the poster board to the bottom of the shoebox, centering it. This will be the base of the nucleus. Take six wooden skewers and glue them to the poster board. These skewers will represent the nuclear membrane.

Create the Nucleolus



Now you can create the nucleolus. Cut a piece of construction paper that is slightly bigger than the length of the shoebox. Glue the construction paper to the bottom of the nucleus and then cut two circles out of the construction paper. The circles should be slightly smaller than the poster board. Glue the circles to the nuclear membrane, one in each corner of the nucleus. This will represent the nucleolus.

Add the Mitochondria



Next, you can add the mitochondria. Cut two strips of construction paper that are slightly bigger than the length of the shoebox. Glue the strips to the bottom of the nucleus and then cut two circles out of the construction paper. Glue the circles to the strips and this will represent the mitochondria.

Create the Vacuole



Now you can create the vacuole. Cut a piece of cellophane wrap that is slightly bigger than the length of the shoebox. Glue the cellophane wrap to the bottom of the nucleus. This will represent the vacuole. Take a piece of construction paper and cut it into a circle that is slightly bigger than the poster board. Glue the circle to the cellophane wrap and this will represent the vacuole.

Add the Endoplasmic Reticulum



Now you can add the endoplasmic reticulum. Cut two strips of construction paper that are slightly bigger than the length of the shoebox. Glue the strips to the bottom of the nucleus and then cut two circles out of the construction paper. Glue the circles to the strips and this will represent the endoplasmic reticulum.

Complete the Model



To complete the model, you can add any other craft materials that you would like. You can use pipe cleaners, beads, felt, foam, etc. to represent the other organelles of the plant cell. You can also use markers to label the different parts of the cell. Once you have finished adding the craft materials, your 3D plant cell model is complete!
